Mining Heavy Equipment Vertical Escape Chutes
MINING -
RSS Single Entry Escape Chute applications for:
• Cranes, High Reach Platforms
• General Towers, Aviation Watch Towers
• Platforms, Marine, Docks, Manufacturing
• Heavy Machinery such as Mining Equipment
• Commercial Structures
The Three Layered Escape Chute system is an invaluable aid when used for applications whereby persons are at risk at height and do not have a rapid means of egress to ground level in an emergency event.
The escape chute not only offers heat and flame protection but is a rapid and safe means to egress from a tall structure. The benefit of the Three Layered Escape Chute System is that it is capable of evacuating persons quickly, yet provides a relatively safe and enclosed environment for the evacuees. The enclosed chute is helpful when used to evacuate people/persons with height phobias or similar ailments.
When in the chute you will descend to ground level safely and calmly. This type of escape chute requires no physical exertion from the occupants and can accommodate, stretchers or persons wearing fall protection or safety equipment. By moving arms and legs outwards your descent speed is reduced, however descent in all cases is controlled. It is always preferred to have trained personal at the top and bottom of the chute, this ensures that people who are panicking can be re-
Again this is helpful if an evacuee becomes unconscious while in the chute as the trained person at ground level will grab the last 4/5 feet of chute and twist it to create a break. This will allow the unconscious person to be removed from the chute safely.
This chute system is ideal for mining applications and heavy plant equipment. RSS have supplied many chute systems for large diggers, tractor units both within the US, Canada and Brazil.

Chute Performance and Material Specification
Vertical Three Layer Chute
Layered Vertical Escape Chute designed to support a dead weight of 2 tones and heat resistant to 650 degrees with a melting point of 800 degrees. The Chute length varies dependent on operating height; however in all cases a one meter air gap is required at deck level for evacuees to exit the chute.
Layer 1
The outer ‘Flame-
There is a space between the outer and middle layer designed to reduce the radiated heat transferred to the middle & inner chute layers.
Layer 2
The middle ‘Braking’ layer, this is fitted with a series of stainless steel coiled springs sewn into the material. These springs have a small diameter designed arrest descent as the individual descends. Descent speed through the chute is adjusted by the individual extending or withdrawing arms & legs.
The evacuee only needs to apply pressure on the chute's interior wall with legs and arms, the more pressure, the more you slow down, less pressure and you will speed up.
In all cases descent speed is controlled and safe.
